Update Spotify on Windows
Works for Windows 10 and Windows 11
Method 1 — Auto-Update from the App Menu
Recommended- 1 Open the Spotify desktop app.
- 2 Click the menu button (≡) in the top-left corner (or use the Alt key to reveal the menu bar).
- 3 Go to Help → About Spotify.
- 4 If an update is available, you'll see a prompt — click "Click here to update".
- 5 Spotify will download and apply the update automatically, then restart.
Method 2 — Let It Update on Restart
- 1 Spotify often downloads updates silently in the background.
- 2 Completely quit Spotify (right-click the tray icon → Quit).
- 3 Reopen Spotify. It will install any pending update and launch the latest version.
Method 3 — Reinstall from the Official Site
- 1 Go to spotify.com/download in your browser.
- 2 Download the latest Windows installer.
- 3 Run the installer — it will upgrade your existing installation without removing your settings.
Tip: If you installed Spotify from the Microsoft Store, updates are managed automatically by the Store app. Open the Microsoft Store, click the Library icon, and select Get updates.
Update Spotify on macOS
Works on macOS 10.13 and later
Method 1 — Update from the Menu Bar
Recommended- 1 Open Spotify and make sure it's the active app.
- 2 In the top menu bar, click Spotify (next to the Apple logo).
- 3 Select "About Spotify".
- 4 If an update is ready, click "Update Now" or "Restart and Update".
- 5 Spotify will close, apply the update, and reopen automatically.
Method 2 — Quit and Relaunch
- 1 Press ⌘ Cmd + Q to fully quit Spotify.
- 2 Reopen Spotify from your Applications folder or Dock.
- 3 If an update was downloaded in the background, it will be applied on this relaunch.
Method 3 — Reinstall the Latest Version
- 1 Visit spotify.com/download and download the macOS .dmg file.
- 2 Open the .dmg and drag Spotify to your Applications folder, replacing the existing version.
- 3 Launch Spotify — your login and playlists are preserved.
Tip: If you installed Spotify from the Mac App Store, open the App Store, click your profile picture, and scroll to Pending Updates to update it there.
Update Spotify on iPhone / iPad
iOS 14 and later · iPadOS 14 and later
Method 1 — Update via the App Store
Recommended- 1 Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
- 2 Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- 3 Scroll down to the Available Updates section.
- 4 Find Spotify in the list and tap "Update" next to it.
- 5 Wait for the download to complete — then open Spotify.
Method 2 — Enable Automatic Updates
- 1 Open the Settings app on your device.
- 2 Scroll down and tap App Store.
- 3 Toggle "App Updates" to ON under Automatic Downloads.
- 4 Spotify (and all other apps) will now update automatically in the background.
Tip: You can also long-press the Spotify icon on your Home Screen and tap "Update App" if an update is pending — no need to open the App Store.
Update Spotify on Android
Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and later
Method 1 — Update via Google Play Store
Recommended- 1 Open the Google Play Store app.
- 2 Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- 3 Select "Manage apps & device".
- 4 Tap "Updates available" to see apps with pending updates.
- 5 Find Spotify and tap "Update", or tap "Update all".
Method 2 — Update Directly from Spotify's Play Store Page
- 1 Open the Google Play Store and search for "Spotify".
- 2 Tap the Spotify listing.
- 3 If the button says "Update", tap it. (If it says "Open", you're already up to date.)
Method 3 — Enable Auto-Updates for Spotify
- 1 Open the Google Play Store and go to Spotify's page.
- 2 Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right.
- 3 Select "Enable auto-update".
- 4 Spotify will now update automatically whenever a new version is released.
Tip: On some Android devices (Samsung, Huawei, etc.) Spotify may be installed through a manufacturer's app store (Galaxy Store, AppGallery). Check there if you don't see an update in Google Play.
